About

Tokyo Jesus, born Sayu Rui Ishiyama, is a Japanese mixed-media artist based in Japan, renowned for his intricate dolls, sculptures, art toys, drawings, and dark surreal worlds that blend traditional Japanese doll-making techniques with vintage fabrics, epoxy putty resin, metal, and found objects. Deeply influenced by nature, animism, and themes of survival, memory, eternity, memento mori, and the human spirit facing adversity, his work explores Eastern and Western perspectives, human desires, universal values, life and death, and the Yaoyorozu belief that every object has a spirit. Active since 2009, he has exhibited internationally and built a global collector base through his immersive vision.[1][2][3]
