About

Stella Im Hultberg was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Seoul, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and later California. She studied industrial design in college, worked as a product designer, and transitioned into the art world in late 2005, beginning to show her work around 14 years prior to a 2019 interview, primarily self-taught aside from childhood drawing classes. After a decade in New York City, including time in Brooklyn, she relocated to Portland, Oregon, where she lives and works with her husband and daughter, creating ethereal depictions of female subjects blending figurative and illustrative elements influenced by her Korean heritage.
