Sonya Palencia

About

Sonya Palencia is a painter, illustrator, sculptor, and woodcarver whose work celebrates nature, the mystical, and romantic aesthetics of the old world, aligning with contemporary surrealism. Born and raised in Colton, California, she began creating art at age three, studying the local wilderness, historical landmarks, and her native region's past as a child. She later traveled abroad to research classical arts and traditional folklore, graduated with distinction from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, in Film & Fine Art, and worked 10 years in the film industry as a designer and sculptor. Now living on a ranch in the Californian Los Padres National Wilderness with her husband, fellow artist Jeff Nentrup, she pursues fine art full-time.
