Sonia Vasquez is a queer Mexican artist based in Wisconsin, known for blending classical realism with contemporary concepts in her painting practice. She earned a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts – Painting and Drawing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Post-graduation, she pursued studies in classical realism through workshops, books, and online media with artists such as Michael Klein, Alex Venezia, and Scott Waddell, leading to her unique intersection of traditional portraiture techniques and modern themes drawn from queer studies, people, history, and her collection of antiques and oddities. Her work amplifies underrepresented stories not typically found in traditional portraiture, museums, and galleries.
