About

Josh Agle, known professionally as Shag, is a Southern California-based painter, illustrator, and designer renowned for his Lowbrow art featuring mid-century modern fantasy worlds filled with mod characters, tiki culture, cocktails, and debauchery. Born on August 31, 1962, in Sierra Madre, California, as the first of nine children, he spent early childhood in Hawaii before moving to Los Angeles and later Utah during high school. Agle studied economics and architecture at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) in the mid-1980s, switching to graphic design where he honed his skills, influenced by his grandfather's commercial art legacy and his own involvement in LA's garage music scene, punk bands like Swamp Zombies, and tiki culture.[1][2][3][6]
