About

Selene Mauri Cochrane is a textile and mixed media artist based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, working from her home-based studio. With over three decades of experience as a costume designer and maker, she began her career in the fashion industry before transitioning to theatre, performance art, opera, ballet, circus, contemporary, and First Nations dance companies. Her artistic practice draws on skills in pattern making, dyeing, fabric manipulation, embellishment, and ceramics, profoundly shaped by personal experiences living with chronic pain from scoliosis and other health challenges, transforming hardship into resilient, expressive forms.[1][2][3][5]

Contemporary works exploring creative and destructive forces, blending human and animal, dream and reality, with tactile textures evoking fur, feathers, flesh, and antlers, blurring earthly and mystical realms.
