About

Sabin Bălașa was a Romanian painter, writer, and director of animated films renowned for his cosmic romanticism style, featuring archetypal figures, metaphysical themes, and a poetic, philosophic structure immersed in romantic and cosmic atmospheres. Born in Dobriceni, Olt, Romania, he graduated from the Fine Arts Institute in Bucharest in 1955 and studied at art academies in Siena (1965) and Perugia (1966), Italy. He drew inspiration from Romanian art traditions, history, and mythology, creating works that evoke national heroes like Decebalus, Stephen the Great, and Eminescu, as well as timeless, legendary figures. His career spanned painting, large-scale murals in public institutions, animated films from 1966-1979, novels published between 1996-2006, and extensive press publications on art's role in human development.
