Robert Duxbury

Contemporary Surrealism Watercolour

About

Robert Duxbury is a predominantly self-taught contemporary artist based in Melbourne, Australia, known for exploring the elusiveness of deep subconscious emotions and the human condition through ambiguous symbolism, brooding color palettes, and themes of vulnerability, apathy, youthfulness, and personal metamorphosis. Originally a street artist for nearly 15 years, primarily creating client-based commissions focused on aesthetics, his practice shifted dramatically after living several years in the Guangdong province of China, particularly Shenzhen, where he studied traditional Chinese Gongbi and ink wash painting techniques. This experience marked a turning point, leading to a studio-based practice that serves as both therapy and a catalyst for personal and creative growth, drawing inspiration from classical romanticism and symbolism movements.
