Qixuan Lim (QimmyShimmy)
About
Qixuan Lim, known professionally as QimmyShimmy, is a Singaporean artist and designer who works as a sculptor by night while maintaining a full-time career as a UX/information designer.[2][4] Born and raised in Singapore, she studied graphic design formally and obtained her master's degree from the Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where she discovered her artistic voice through sculpture.[1][2] Her work explores the tension between the real and imaginary, combining pop-surrealist influences with dark, whimsical imagery that challenges conventional beauty standards. QimmyShimmy gained international recognition through her distinctive sculptural practice, which features macabre miniature sculptures—particularly baby faces, hands, and hearts—integrated into familiar everyday objects like food, packaging, and household items.[5][6] She deliberately maintains dual creative practices, viewing her art as a form of personal expression and escapism rather than pursuing it as a full-time career.[2] Her artistic development was significantly shaped by her time abroad, particularly her studies in the Netherlands and residencies in various European cities, which provided crucial curatorial support and exhibition opportunities that established her international presence.[1][3]
