About

Pierre Molinier was a French surrealist painter, photographer, and precursor to body art, known for his erotic, fetishistic self-portraits and experimental techniques. Born in Agen, France, in 1900, he began his career as a house painter, apprenticed with his father and a sculptor, and started photographing at age 18. In his twenties, he moved to Bordeaux, joined a secret esoteric society, married Andrea Lafaye in 1931, and had two children. Initially painting landscapes, his work evolved in the 1950s toward surrealism, capturing unconscious desires and erotic drives, which attracted André Breton's support and led to his first exhibition.[1][2][3][4][5]
