About

Pete Conroy is a contemporary British portrait artist based in Echuca, Victoria, Australia. He studied for a BA Honours in Painting & Drawing at the University of Huddersfield and earned a Masters of Fine Art from the University of Sydney. Conroy has developed a distinctive artistic practice that intentionally distorts facial features during the drawing stage, then attempts to reintegrate them during the painting process, creating a juxtaposition between abstraction and classical realism. Conroy's work explores the intersection of classical portraiture and illustration, with a particular focus on the human face and figure. He has exhibited extensively across the United Kingdom and Australia, including solo shows at notable venues such as Bondi Pavilion Gallery, The Foundry Artspace in Echuca, and Rochester Town Hall. His paintings have been featured in curated collections, and he has achieved recognition as a finalist in the EMAI Art Prize. Conroy has sold hundreds of paintings internationally and maintains an active presence on multiple art platforms.
