Octavio Ocampo
About
Octavio Ocampo is a Mexican surrealist painter born on February 28, 1943, in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, into a family of designers where he studied art from early childhood. He created papier-mâché figures for festivals and painted murals for local institutions like the Preparatory School and City Hall of Celaya during high school. Encouraged by Ruth Rivera, daughter of Diego Rivera, and Maria Luisa Mendoza, he attended the School of Painting and Sculpture at the National Fine Art Institute in Mexico City, later studying at the San Francisco Art Institute, graduating in 1974, where he also pursued acting, dancing, and film careers, including set designs for over 120 films. In 1976, he dedicated himself fully to painting and sculpture, developing his signature metamorphic style that superimposes realistic details to form optical illusions weaving intricate smaller images into larger ones.
