About

Nick Sheehy is an Australian-born artist and illustrator currently living in London. After studying bronze sculpture at the University of Tasmania, he initially abandoned art, finding the medium too heavy, expensive, and time-intensive. He rediscovered his passion for drawing after moving to London, where he was inspired by the city's low-brow art, illustration, street art, and graffiti scenes. His artistic practice evolved from quick mid-century animation-style illustrations into meticulous, layered paintings that explore dreamlike and semi-autobiographical narratives. Sheehy's work is characterized by anthropomorphic and otherworldly creatures that echo from his childhood imagination, infused with themes of mortality, environmental concern, and the duality of life and death. He employs a laborious technique of building multiple layers of texture and color, combining precision and attention to detail with random abstraction and clumsiness. His paintings serve as a form of meditation and escape, functioning similarly to how the brain processes experiences through dreams. Sheehy has exhibited internationally and worked with notable clients including Nickelodeon, while being represented by Roar Illustration Agency in the UK.
