Miles Johnston
About
Miles Johnston is a contemporary surrealist artist born in the UK in 1993, who spent his early childhood in Brunei, Borneo, an experience that profoundly shaped his perception of the world and instilled a fascination with transforming the mundane into the extraordinary. His artistic journey began in Hampshire, England, where he explored diverse interests including mathematics, physics, philosophy, and art. At age 18, he moved to Sweden to study classical realist techniques at the Swedish Academy of Realist Art (also referred to as Atelier Stockholm), grounding his surreal distortions in masterful rendering of the human form. Now based in Sweden, he works part-time as a primary instructor at the academy while developing his own body of work, which features distorted, fragmented human figures evoking complex emotions like agony, guilt, shame, and transformation through graphite drawings and oil paintings.
