Michael Campbell is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, sculptor, and educator known for his installations and sculptures that explore themes such as erosion over time, the perseverance of the worn, juxtapositions of old and new, and the extraordinary in the ordinary. Born in Toronto, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Toronto in 1990 and a Master of Fine Arts from Concordia University in Montreal in 1993. He has taught extensively, including in Montreal, Cape Dorset (Nunavut), Inuvik (N.W.T.), Dickinson (North Dakota), Poitiers and Sauvé (France), and since 1998 at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, where he maintains a studio. Campbell also spends time at his seaside studio on Hornby Island, British Columbia, utilizing local materials like rock, metal, wood, and debris in his work.[2][4]
