Michael Camarra
About
Michael Camarra (b. 1983) is a New York-based contemporary artist specializing in surreal, neo-futuristic, and post-apocalyptic themed works. Born and raised in Southern Connecticut, he studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where he currently lives and works. Initially focused on large-scale landscape paintings, Camarra shifted to pen and ink in 2016 after moving to California, drawn to cross-hatching techniques suited to smaller spaces. Inspired by hikes in San Diego's arid landscapes contrasting New England's greenery, he embraced the medium's immediacy, permanence, and meditative quality. His subjects often explore abandoned places, decay, mysticism, and personal mythologies blending modern relics with enchanted natural spaces.
