Micah Ofstedahl
About
Born in 1982 in Austin, Minnesota, Micah Ofstedahl is a contemporary artist based in Oregon, known for his 'altered realism' style that reimagines hyper-realistic landscapes disrupted by distortions resembling water, glass, or invisible energies. His work evolved from a decade of 'biological surrealism,' drawing from anatomical forms and 19th-century illustrations by Ernst Haeckel, influenced by his childhood precision in coloring books and formal training in sculpture and ceramics at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he earned a BFA. Ofstedahl's paintings blend control and chaos, exposing fractures in nature to question perception, time, and space, with roots in human anatomy, psychology, and personal observations of nature's changes.
