Meagan Magpie Rodgers
About
Meagan 'Magpie' Rodgers is a contemporary dark surrealist painter and graphite artist originally from Riverside/Corona, California, now based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Born into an artistic family, she was encouraged from an early age to create, with some of her earliest memories involving drawing with her brother and crafting sculptures from found materials. She took formal art classes in high school and at community college, which strengthened her technical abilities and deepened her commitment to pursuing art as a career. Rodgers' artistic practice centers on translating intangible human experiences into visual form, particularly exploring themes of grief, mental health, depression, bipolar disorder, and paranormal phenomena. Her work is characterized by a distinctive visual language featuring subjects with missing jaws—a stylistic choice that she now views as reflecting her reserved nature and her preference for expressing herself through art rather than words. The profound influence of her brother Zak, whose untimely passing deeply affected her, marked a turning point in her career, shifting her focus from external subjects like animals to raw, human-centered emotional narratives. Rodgers' career has evolved from small local commissions and art walk participation during her school years to gallery exhibitions across the United States and Australia. She leverages social media and online platforms to share her work while maintaining a personal online shop, establishing herself as a recognized voice in the contemporary art scene without compromising her commitment to emotional authenticity.
