About

Marco Mazzoni is an Italian contemporary artist born in 1982 in Tortona, Italy, known for his hyper-detailed colored pencil drawings that blend portraiture with elements of flora, fauna, and Sardinian folklore. He graduated with a degree in painting from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan in 2007 and primarily works exclusively with colored pencils, creating haunting portraits of female herbalists or mystics from 16th-18th century Sardinia, often framed by organic shapes, animals, and plants using chiaroscuro contrasts. His work draws from childhood experiences in the countryside surrounded by nature and Sardinian women, paying homage to healers, seductresses, and folklore figures like Janas and Cogas, evoking themes of fragile beauty, enchantment, and the dangers of nature.
