Mab Graves
About
Mab Graves is a self-taught Contemporary Pop-Surrealist artist based in Indianapolis, Indiana, living and working in a converted 1800s tavern or a small house in the forest. Her passion for art began in infancy, gripping crayons around 6 months old, progressing through childhood and teen years with graphite and pen mediums before discovering painting in early 2009. Influenced by science, paleontology, natural history, retro space culture, fairy tales, and classic literature, her deeply personal work uses symbolism to explore themes like belonging, fragility, introversion, and death, featuring big-eyed characters in whimsical, surreal narratives. She moved to Indianapolis in 2007, working jobs like bartender and florist, and entered the gallery scene that year encouraged by her husband, photographer Larry Endicott, whom she calls 'Laurence the Prince' or 'LP'.
