Luke Gray
About
Luke Gray is a UK-based nomadic surrealist painter and muralist specializing in large-scale black and white works on walls and canvas, influenced by his color blindness which led him to focus on patterns, textures, and an almost exclusively monochrome palette with occasional red or gold accents. He draws inspiration from traditional Asian decorative arts, European styles like Art Nouveau, Symbolism, and Surrealism, as well as multicultural influences gathered from hitchhiking through over 50 countries since 2013, painting murals for hotels, bars, and schools while living with indigenous tribes to study their textile patterns, tattoos, and sacred symbols. A graduate of the University of East London (UEL) in graphic design and photography, he transitioned to painting and has undertaken international residencies, commissions, and exhibitions.
