About

Luciana Lupe Vasconcelos (b. 1982) is a Brazilian contemporary artist based in Teresópolis, Brazil, known for her exploration of mythical, mystical, and occult themes through traditional techniques, particularly water-based media and automatism. With a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts and a Master's in Visual Culture, she initially worked as a graphic designer, tattoo artist, and children's book illustrator before fully pursuing her fine art career around 2011. Her self-taught artistic style draws from symbolism and surrealism, influenced by her childhood interest in illustrated books, comics, and her mother's artistic inclination, evolving from pop surrealism to darker, gothic imagery featuring femme monsters, sphinxes, chimeras, and witchcraft motifs. Vasconcelos integrates art with spiritual practices, viewing herself as an 'art witch' who channels cosmic balance and gender fluidity through her interdisciplinary work.
