About
Lana Crooks is a contemporary artist specializing in textile sculptures that recreate delicate skeletal specimens, animal skeletons both real and imagined, and plush monsters. Based in Portland, Oregon, with earlier associations to Chicago, her work juxtaposes the softness of hand-dyed wool and silk with the solidity of bones, often adorning pieces with colorful florals, feathers, jewels, or vines to create elegant yet eerie anatomical forms such as skulls, hands, ouroboros, and ribcages, frequently encased in glass domes or ornate boxes.[1][3][4][6] She draws inspiration from the antique, creepy, cute, and mysterious, constructing creatures from fabrics and found objects.[4]
