About
Khadiga Riad was an Egyptian artist born into an elite family as the daughter of Hamed El Alaily and granddaughter of Ahmed Chawki. She studied at the Mere de Dieu college and continued her education from 1950 to 1954. Regarded as Egypt's foremost female surrealist, she was initially influenced by Cairo's Surrealist Art and Liberty group, opening her home to the avant-garde movement in the 1930s and creating images of 'entanglement.'[1][2][3][4][6]
