Kazuhiro Hori
About
Kazuhiro Hori is a Japanese contemporary artist born in 1969 in Tokyo, who graduated from Kanazawa College of Art. He specializes in painting, creating surrealist works that depict nightmarish visions of adolescence featuring young girls in colorful environments filled with soft toys, sweets, and menacing elements, often referencing traditional Japanese shunga erotic prints to explore themes of mental health, abuse, and loss of innocence. His early work featured deformed, monstrous figures, but he shifted to a more realistic style influenced by manga, animation, and contemporary lowbrow artists. Hori teaches contemporary art, drawing, and fashion design at a junior college in Japan, which informs his perspective on youth and society.
