About

Jules Perahim (born Julius Blumenfeld) was a Romanian artist of Jewish origin, recognized as a leading figure in Romanian Surrealism alongside Victor Brauner. Born in 1914, he became associated with Surrealist circles in Bucharest during the early 1930s, holding his first solo exhibition on February 7, 1932, and contributing to avant-garde publications. Politically active, he opposed right-wing and monarchist governments, producing anti-monarchist works exhibited in Bucharest in 1936, meeting John Heartfield in 1938, and aligning with the communist movement, eventually joining the Romanian Communist Party in exile in the Soviet Union during World War II.
