Joshua Scott Osburg is a contemporary oil painter and draftsman based in St. Louis City, Missouri. A U.S. Army combat veteran from St. Louis, he participated in the National Park Service's artist-in-residence program at Gettysburg National Military Park in 2018, where he spent a month painting on the battlefield. His artwork explores themes of war, transformation, pain, and the relationship between the unconscious and conscious mind, creating 'Mentalscapes' that depict this dichotomy. Osburg's process-driven approach to painting reflects his personal experiences, including the overwhelming sensory impacts of combat, providing him freedom and a means to process challenges.
