About

Jolene Lai is a Singapore-born artist and illustrator, born in 1980, who was raised in Singapore and is currently based in Los Angeles, though one source mentions Rhode Island. She studied painting at Lasalle-SIA College of the Arts (also referred to as LASALLE College of the Arts) in Singapore, followed by graphic design at UCLA, and worked briefly in movie-poster design at The Refinery Creative before dedicating herself to fine art around age 30. Her work features bold colors, intricate details, and a seductive aesthetic blending whimsy, melancholy, irony, and absurdity, often drawing from mythologies, Asian culture, Chinese folklore, fairytales, children's stories, fashion, cityscapes, and illustration, with elements of the beautiful and grotesque.
