John Walker
About
John Walker is a British-born painter renowned for his abstract works that blend figurative elements, influenced by landscapes, sea observations, and international cultures including Aboriginal art. Born in Birmingham, England, in 1939, he studied at Birmingham College of Art (1956-1960), the British School in Rome (1960-1961), and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris (1961-1963). His career includes significant periods in the UK during the 1960s-1970s with innovations in shaped canvases and large-scale installations, a transformative time in Australia engaging with Aboriginal art, and later residences in New York and Maine, where he continues to work, producing recent optimistic, airy paintings on small formats like bingo cards.
