About

Jana Brike is a Latvian contemporary surrealist painter born in 1980 in Riga, Latvia. She studied academic painting at the Art Academy of Latvia (also referred to as the Latvian Academy of Art) and earned her Master's degree in 2005. Beginning her exhibition career as a teenager in 1996, she has since held numerous solo exhibitions, including 'Ebbs and Flows of Heartblood' at William Baczek Fine Arts in Northampton, USA, 'Savage Eden' at Vinyl on Vinyl in Manila, Philippines, 'My Parallel Lives' and 'Milk and Blood' at Maksla XO in Riga, Latvia, and participated in over 100 group shows worldwide, such as BLAB at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles and collaborations like URBAN NATION's Project M/14 in 2019. Her work explores the internal human soul through themes of dreams, longing, love, pain, self-discovery, femininity, folklore, mythology, and nature, often described as a poetic visual autobiography featuring symbolic female figures in natural settings.
