Jamie Bates
About
Jamie Bates is a contemporary ceramic artist originally from Cameron, Missouri, renowned for their figurative sculptures that explore identity, mental landscapes, mental health, sexuality, and gender through scale, composition, and surface treatments. Bates challenges societal norms, drawing from personal experiences including family history of illness and psychological influences. They earned a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Ceramics from the University of Central Missouri in 2008 and an MFA in Ceramics with honors from the University of Kansas in 2012, where they received the Professional Development Assistance Award.
