About

James Bonnici is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist specializing in oil painting and charcoal drawing, working in the tradition of figurative realism while exploring themes of distortion, manipulation of reality, and a sense of rupture in existence. Influenced from a young age by his father's hobby painting, he pursued formal training, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Art majoring in Painting from RMIT University in Bundoora/Melbourne between 1996 and 1999. His work draws from evocative, ambiguous images that challenge physical representations, invoking strangeness and the ambiguous nature of being.
