About

Ivan Kenneth Eyre was a Canadian artist renowned for his prairie landscapes, figurative paintings, still lifes, sculptures, and drawings, often incorporating elements of Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism. Born in Tullymet, Saskatchewan, he began drawing and painting early, studying under mentors Ernest Lindner at age 14 and Eli Bornstein at 17 while in high school in Saskatoon. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Manitoba in 1957, pursued graduate studies at the University of North Dakota in 1958–59 where he taught as a graduate assistant and experimented with sculpture, and returned to Winnipeg in 1959 to teach at the University of Manitoba School of Art, becoming a full-time instructor in 1960 until his retirement in 1992.
