Haejin Yoo
About
Haejin Yoo is a self-taught contemporary artist specializing in surrealistic expressionism, born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Australia after moving there at age 11. She initially pursued a career in the sciences, earning a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from the University of Technology Sydney and a Masters of Applied Science in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Sydney, before transitioning to art in her late twenties. Her work explores themes of identity, persona, emotion, and introspection, often using mixed media including acrylics, oils, textiles, carpentry, and sculpture on raw canvas to create immersive, symbolic pieces that evoke past and present experiences. Influenced by her nomadic life across Australia, London, Germany, and back to Sydney, her autism shapes her deeply personal creative process, intertwining beauty and sadness as symbols of human resilience.
