Martine Gutierrez is a trans and Latinx artist known for her multifaceted practice as editor-in-chief, photographer, model, creative director, fashion designer, and hairstylist. She crafts advertising campaigns for imaginary luxury goods like shoes, perfume, jeans, and sunglasses, using visual vocabularies of patriarchy and cultural appropriation to critique gender binaries and cultural authenticity. Her work, including the project Indigenous Woman, responds to colonial and patriarchal oppression through self-produced anthologies of heritage presented in magazine format.
