About

Gustavo Rimada is a Mexican-born artist based in California known for blending bold color palettes, stylized subjects, and a fusion of Mexican visuals, art history, and contemporary tattoo culture. Born in Torreón, Mexico in 1981, he migrated to California at age seven, where he was raised in Indio. After high school, he attended The Art Institute in Santa Monica to study Computer Animation but left following the September 11th attacks, feeling unfulfilled. He then served three years in the U.S. Army as an infantryman in Alaska. After his military service, Rimada's wife encouraged him to pursue painting by purchasing art supplies and panels for him. He spent years working intensively on his craft at night while maintaining other jobs, eventually moving back to California to pursue art full-time. His work bridges his ancestral Mexican heritage with his American experience, creating a dynamic cultural fusion. A transformative visit to Mexico City in 2022 reignited his artistic spirit and deepened his connection to his cultural identity. Today, Rimada dedicates his work to celebrating the beauty and history of his culture through acrylic painting.

Pop Surrealism with bold color palettes, stylized subjects, and a blend of Mexican visuals, art history, and contemporary tattoo culture. Known for technical, clean rendering and bright colors.
