Contemporary Surrealism Cardboard sculpture

About

Greg Olijnyk is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist renowned for his intricate cardboard sculptures inspired by science fiction, machinery, robots, insects, and fantastical architecture. Growing up in Ballarat, Australia, during the 1960s, he was surrounded by turn-of-the-century architecture and conservative thinking, finding escape in sci-fi books, films, and TV shows that promised exciting future technologies. After studying painting and graphic design at Ballarat College of Advanced Education, he operated his own graphic design studio for 30 years, developing a keen eye for detail and problem-solving. In 2017, seeking a third-dimensional creative outlet, he transitioned from digital design to sculpting with cardboard, using only a scalpel, PVA glue, and ruler without preliminary plans or digital tools.
