About
Femke Hiemstra is a Dutch painter specializing in pop surrealism, known for her mixed-media paintings and graphite drawings featuring anthropomorphized fruits, vegetables, toy parts, and animals that reference retro packaging. Born in Zaanstad, Netherlands, she grew up exploring nearby fields, building tree houses, reading comics, and drawing horses and birds of prey. She studied at the School of Graphic Arts in Amsterdam and the School of Arts in Utrecht, initially working as a freelance illustrator for about 10 years before transitioning to full-time fine art around 2006, creating elaborate personal works with unique characters.[1][2][4]
