Fabio de Sanctis
About
Fabio de Sanctis was born in Rome, Italy, on February 7, 1931. He studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture in Rome, graduating in 1957, after which he opened his own architectural practice, designing buildings and interiors for private and public clients. In the early 1960s, dissatisfied with contemporary furniture design, he began creating furniture and in 1963 co-founded Officina 11 with Ugo Sterpini, producing 27 critically acclaimed pieces exhibited internationally. In 1965, André Breton invited Officina 11 to the International Surrealist Exhibition 'L’Ecart Absolu' in Paris, leading de Sanctis to join the Surrealist movement; his surrealist sculptures and furniture are noted for their wit, originality, and unexpected juxtapositions.
