About

Elba Damast was a Venezuelan artist born in 1944 in Pedernales, Delta Amacuro, Venezuela. She was the third oldest of her parents' children and traveled extensively, studying in Paris from 1964 to 1966, returning to Venezuela from 1967 to 1968, and exploring South America from 1969 to incorporate Latin American influences. In 1972, she moved to New York City, where she lived and worked until her death, adopting Surrealist styles influenced by the city's art scene.

Surrealist with postwar and contemporary elements, featuring ambiguous imagery, houses etched into environments, human hearts, and autobiographical multi-headed portraits
