Dave Lebow is a representational painter, illustrator, and teacher specializing in imaginative, surreal, and expressive subject matter within contemporary surrealism. Born in 1955 in Oklahoma, he earned a BFA in Painting from Boston University in 1976 and an MFA in Experimental Animation from CalArts in 2000. He studied with notable instructors including Harry Carmean and Glenn Vilpuu in Los Angeles, Burton Silverman privately in New York, and at the Art Students League with Robert Beverly Hale, David Leffel, Daniel Greene, Robert Philipp, and Robert Brackman. After a career shift to animation in 2000, he returned to full-time painting in 2009, focusing on themes like Grimm's Fairy Tales, demons, devils, angels, pulpy noir narratives, and fantastical scenes featuring beautiful women, warriors, damsels, and absurd creatures.[1][2][3][4]
