About

Costa Magarakis is a Greek-born Israeli artist based in Tel Aviv, specializing in surreal sculptures that transform footwear into fantastical creatures, vessels, and machines. Trained in fine arts, he draws inspiration from the Victorian era, science fiction novels, mythology, religion, science, and childhood memories found in old children's books and toys. His work explores grotesque imagery, the unknown, and the grey area between truths and lies, often described as a 'Gothic wonderland' featuring surreal machines and impossible worlds crafted from materials like glass, bronze, resin, clay, paint, and fiberglass structures.[1][2][4][6]
