Christopher Ulrich
About
Christopher Ulrich is a contemporary American painter known for his surreal iconographic imagery that has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. Born and raised in Colorado, he received his BFA in Painting from Colorado State University, followed by a Post-Baccalaureate from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 2007, and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2010. His artistic practice explores what lies beneath the surface of everyday narratives, investigating how benign stories can reveal deeper complexities. Ulrich's work is characterized by his exploration of painting beyond traditional two-dimensional representation, creating layered compositions that extend and retreat in space to engage viewers in discovery and curiosity. His artistic influences draw from ancient mythology, alchemy, and cosmic reality. Beyond painting, he extends his conceptual investigations into installation work, employing formal analyses of sound and space alongside reinterpretations of real-life interactions, with particular interest in the concepts of simulation and simulacra.
