Christopher R. Mindle
About
Christopher R. Mindle is a Boston-based contemporary painter and sculptor specializing in pop surrealism and lowbrow art. He began painting seriously approximately ten years before 2015, initially showing work at local exhibitions in Allston, Massachusetts. He formalized his artistic training by graduating from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2015, after deciding to pursue art education six years prior. Mindle's artistic practice is rooted in surrealism, fantasy, and imaginative storytelling drawn from his childhood experiences and dreams. His work explores themes of decay, distressed objects, dark humor, and emotional narratives often overlooked in everyday life. He employs traditional painting techniques, including the Flemish seven-layer method, to create dense, rich backgrounds that blend abstract and realistic elements into fantastical landscapes and scenes. His artistic influences span fantasy, horror, science fiction, and personal life experiences. Mindle's thematic range varies from whimsical and imaginative compositions to politically charged and intensely disturbing imagery, frequently incorporating lowbrow aesthetics and dark humor. He has exhibited his work at various venues and received recognition including the Boskone Art Show Director's Choice Award.
