Caroline Dewison
About
Caroline Dewison is a British contemporary artist based in Warrington, England, who specializes in creating enchanting miniature dioramas and portal-like sculptures. Entirely self-taught, she spent approximately ten years working with ceramics, creating beads and small sculptures before transitioning to mixed media around 2023. Her artistic journey began in childhood with a passion for painting, drawing, and creating, which she has maintained throughout her life by continuously exploring new creative mediums and techniques. Dewison's work is characterized by intricately detailed miniature worlds that blend surrealism with fantastical elements, including extraterrestrial landscapes, fairy scenes, and ghostly imagery. Her pieces often feature hand-painted backgrounds, sculpted interiors, and dynamic kinetic elements powered by hand-cranked mechanisms or electronics. She works primarily with laser-cut plywood, Jesmonite, acrylic paint, clay, and 3D-printing pens to construct her miniature portals, which she describes as capturing moments in time that offer viewers an escape from the everyday world. Dewison's artistic practice reflects her lifelong fascination with the otherworldly and supernatural, combined with her love of problem-solving and engineering. Her work has been featured in galleries including Arch Enemy Arts and Momentum Gallery, and she maintains an active presence on Instagram and Etsy, where collectors can view and purchase her creations.
