Brian Despain is an American artist born on January 26, 1971, in Calumet, Michigan, known for his work in illustration, fine art, and fantasy art, often associated with Pop Surrealism though he identifies with Symbolism. He earned a BFA from Eastern Michigan University and began his professional career at age 18 with illustration gigs like cartoon city maps, progressing through graphic design, photo-retouching, 3D modeling, and a decade in the video game industry at Snowblind Studios in Seattle, contributing to titles and unannounced projects. Transitioning to fine art, he paints in oil for galleries worldwide while continuing freelance illustration for book covers, Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone, and Dungeons & Dragons products like Monster Manual and Lost Empires of Faerûn.
