About

Beth Hoeckel is a contemporary mixed-media artist specializing in collage, photomontage, and illustration, known for her surrealist juxtapositions of vintage imagery creating dreamlike, otherworldly scenes. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, she attended Carver Center for Arts High School and earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2001, studying painting, photography, printmaking, and drawing on a merit scholarship. After graduation, she spent time abroad in Japan and Greece, lived two years in New York and four in Los Angeles, before returning to Baltimore where she continues her intuitive, analog-based practice using scissors, glue, and sourced materials from old magazines and books.
