Andrew Sendor is a contemporary visual artist based in New York, born in 1977 in New York, NY. He is recognized for his extraordinary facility in representational painting that illuminates his engagement with the power of imagination. Sendor employs a unique creative process in which he scripts, produces, directs, and documents performances featuring fictional characters, using these performances as source material for his meticulously rendered artworks. Sendor's practice centers on representing scenes from psychologically charged, hallucinatory narratives through monochromatic compositions characterized by acute pictorial focus and disrupted visual motifs. His work surveys the materiality of images and engages with the interrelated history of photorealism and the evolution of photography. Each painting is situated within artist-designed frames whose physicality elevates the imagery, creating an idiosyncratic language of painting that bridges narrative fiction and visual art. Since 2015, each of Sendor's solo exhibitions has been centered around a single fictional narrative and its characters.
