About

Andrew Hopgood is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist and illustrator who began his professional career as a freelancer after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design at Swinburne University of Technology in 1986.[1][5] He initially worked in commercial illustration using traditional mediums including acrylic, gouache, watercolor, and scraperboard before transitioning to oil painting around 2017.[3][4] His practice has expanded to include digital artworks, children's books, wine labels, advertising campaigns, logo design, packaging, and private painting commissions. Hopgood's artistic practice is characterized by the creation of narrative-driven works that blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.[3] His recent body of work explores environmental challenges faced by wildlife, offering subtle traces of hope for endangered species to adapt to changing environments.[3] He functions his art as a metaphor for the interdependence between humans and nature, aiming to inspire collective commitment to positive environmental change.[3] Hopgood had his first solo exhibition debut at Tacit Galleries in Collingwood, Victoria, in March 2022.[4]
