About

Amani Lewis (b. 1994) is a Baltimore and Miami-based artist known for dynamic, mixed-media portraits that emphasize the humanity, agency, and resilience of their subjects, particularly from Black and queer communities. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in Columbia, Maryland, Lewis graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with a BFA in General Fine Arts and Illustration in 2016. Their practice integrates photography, digital collage, screen-printing, paint, glitter, and textiles to create kaleidoscopic, large-scale works that explore identity, social justice, community activism, and personal narratives, often inspired by events like the Freddie Gray uprising and anti-police violence protests.

Kaleidoscopic portraits blending vibrant patterns, textures, and religious iconography to explore identity and resilience
